UroLift
UroLift uses tiny implants to hold an enlarged prostate open without cutting, heating, or removing tissue. It was designed for smaller prostates, and because symptoms often return in Dr. Shusterman's experience, he now usually recommends PAE first.
What is UroLift?
UroLift is a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate (BPH) that works a bit like opening a curtain. Instead of cutting or removing tissue, tiny permanent implants pull the enlarged prostate lobes aside, widening the channel so urine can flow more freely. It's done in the office, and because nothing is cut or heated, recovery is usually fast.

UroLift is one rung on the BPH treatment ladder, but at our practice it has largely been replaced by prostate artery embolization (PAE), with Rezūm if needed.
Who it's for
UroLift was designed for men with smaller prostates, about 40 grams or less, and no obstructing middle lobe. In Dr. Shusterman's experience symptoms often return, so he now rarely recommends it. An evaluation shows whether PAE, our first-line procedure, or Rezūm is the better fit for you.

What is UroLift?

Is UroLift permanent?
The UroLift implants are designed to stay in place permanently, but the relief does not always last. In Dr. Shusterman's experience, symptoms often return, which is a main reason our practice moved to PAE first, with Rezūm as the alternative.
How fast is recovery after UroLift?
Recovery is typically quick — many men go home the same day and return to normal activity within a few days, often without the need for a catheter.
Does UroLift affect sexual function?
UroLift is notable for preserving sexual function in most men, since it doesn't cut or remove prostate tissue. We'll review the details for your case at your consultation.
